Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, is the night the Quran was first revealed. Allah says it is "better than a thousand months" (Al-Qadr 97:3).
When Is It?
The Prophet ๏ทบ said: "Seek Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan" (Bukhari). Its exact date is not fixed, so many Muslims make extra effort on all of the last ten nights.
Its Virtues
- Worship on this night is better than worship for a thousand months (97:3).
- Angels descend with every matter by Allah's permission (97:4).
- "Whoever stands in prayer on Laylatul Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven" (Bukhari and Muslim).

The Dua to Recite
Aisha (RA) asked what to say if she found the night. The Prophet ๏ทบ taught: ุงููููููู ูู ุฅูููููู ุนูููููู ุชูุญูุจูู ุงููุนููููู ููุงุนููู ุนููููู, "O Allah, You are Pardoning and love to pardon, so pardon me" (Tirmidhi).
A Simple Night Plan
- Pray Isha and Taraweeh.
- Read Quran with reflection: perhaps Surah Al-Qadr with its meaning.
- Make lots of dua for yourself, family and the Ummah.
- Give charity, even a small amount, online.
- Pray a few rak'ahs of night prayer before Suhoor.
