Juz Amma, the 30th part of the Quran, contains 37 surahs, from An-Naba to An-Nas. It's the most popular first Hifz goal. Here's a step-by-step plan for how to memorize Juz Amma.
Start From the End
Most teachers start with the shortest surahs at the end (An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas) and work backwards toward An-Naba. Short surahs build confidence quickly. Our list of first surahs for kids shows a good starting order.
Daily Targets
| Learner | Daily new memorization | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Young child (5โ7) | 1โ3 ayahs | 12โ18 months |
| Older child (8โ12) | 3โ5 lines | 6โ10 months |
| Adult | 5โ10 lines | 4โ8 months |
These are rough guides. Consistency matters far more than speed.

A Simple Routine
- Listen to the new ayahs 5 times.
- Read them correctly 5โ10 times from the Mushaf.
- Repeat from memory, ayah by ayah, linking each to the previous one.
- Recite the whole surah to a parent or teacher.
- Revise all previous surahs once a week.
Use the Surahs in Salah
Rotating newly memorized surahs in your prayers is one of the best ways to keep them fresh.
After Juz Amma
Many students move on to Juz Tabarak (29th juz), or popular surahs like Al-Mulk, Al-Kahf and Yaseen. Continue in our online Hifz program.
