Teaching children to pray is one of a parent's most important responsibilities. The Prophet ๏ทบ said: "Command your children to pray when they are seven years old" (Abu Dawud). Here's how to teach kids Salah gently and effectively.
Before Seven: Pray in Front of Them
Young children imitate. Let them stand beside you, copy your movements and see that prayer is a normal, joyful part of the day.
Step 1: Teach Wudu
Practise wudu together, step by step. A picture chart near the sink helps.

Step-by-step wudu, Salah and daily duas, taught in a fun, practical way.

Qiyam (standing), ruku (bowing), sujood (prostration) and sitting. Practise without recitation first.
Step 3: Teach What to Recite
- Takbir: Allahu Akbar
- Al-Fatiha
- A short surah (Al-Ikhlas is a great start)
- Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem (ruku), Subhana Rabbiyal A'la (sujood)
- Tashahhud
Step 4: Start With One Prayer a Day
Begin with one consistent prayer, often Maghrib, then gradually add others.
Step 5: Explain the Meaning
Children connect more when they know what they're saying. See the meaning of Al-Fatiha.
Step 6: Encourage, Don't Pressure
Praise effort, use a prayer chart, and pray together as a family.
Our Salah & Duas course for kids teaches all of this live, with gentle correction.
