Bedtime is one of the best moments to connect children with Allah. A short, consistent Islamic bedtime routine for kids brings calm, protection and lifelong habits.
A 10-Minute Routine
- Wudu before bed, a Sunnah practice.
- Recite Ayat al-Kursi (Al-Baqarah 2:255). The Prophet ๏ทบ taught that whoever recites it before sleeping has a protector from Allah through the night (Bukhari). Learn its meaning in our Ayat al-Kursi guide.
- Recite the three Quls (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas), blow into the hands and wipe over the body, as the Prophet ๏ทบ did (Bukhari).
- Say the sleeping dua: ุจูุงุณูู ููู ุงููููููู ูู ุฃูู ููุชู ููุฃูุญูููุง, "In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live" (Bukhari).
- Sleep on the right side, following the Sunnah.
- One short story: a story of a Prophet or a Companion.
Make It Easy
- Use a printed dua card next to the bed.
- Recite together until your child can do it alone.
- Keep it short on tired nights. Consistency matters more than length.
Waking Up
Teach the waking dua too: "Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur" ("Praise be to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the return") (Bukhari).
