Imagine understanding the ayahs you recite in Salah without needing a translation. With a focused plan, you can learn Arabic to understand the Quran, step by step.
Step 1: Read Arabic Script Confidently
If you can't yet read fluently, start there. See how to read the Quran fluently.
Step 2: Learn High-Frequency Words
A relatively small set of words makes up a large share of the Quran's text. Learning them first gives quick wins. See most common words in the Quran.

Step 3: Understand Roots and Patterns
Most Arabic words come from three-letter roots. For example, ู ุช ุจ (k-t-b) relates to writing: ููุชูุงุจ (book), ููุงุชูุจ (writer), ู ูููุชููุจ (written). Recognising roots unlocks thousands of words.
Step 4: Basic Grammar (Nahw and Sarf)
- Nouns, verbs and particles
- Past and present verbs
- Pronouns and possessive endings
- Simple sentence structures
Step 5: Apply to Surahs You Know
Start with Al-Fatiha and Juz Amma. Analyse word by word, then read the translation to check.
How Long Does It Take?
With 3 lessons a week, many students begin to recognise a large share of common Quranic words within 6โ12 months. Full mastery takes longer, but understanding grows with every lesson.
